Helicopter Landing and Take-off Prohibition on Lipari
To preserve the serenity and unique environment of Lipari, a restriction on the landing and take-off of helicopters on the island of Lipari has been introduced. This decision aims to balance transport needs with the preservation of the ecosystem and the quality of life of inhabitants and visitors. The lack of adequate infrastructure to support safe helicopter operations played a crucial role in this decision. The absence of properly equipped heliports and specialised air traffic control systems has made it difficult to ensure acceptable safety standards for this type of aircraft. Helicopter landing and take-off operations are permitted on the islands of Salina and Vulcano.
